Active Violence Immediate Response Training

AVIRT is the current HSI national standard for active violence preparedness — the program that officially replaced AVERT on August 27, 2025, following a comprehensive review by law enforcement, military, and emergency medicine subject-matter experts.

Where traditional active shooter training taught people to react, AVIRT empowers them to respond immediately — with clear decision frameworks, real medical skills, and scenario-based confidence that transfers under extreme stress.

  • Situational Awareness: Recognize pre-incident warning signs and escalation cues before violence begins
  • Immediate Response Decisions: Dynamic threat assessment under stress — with clear decision frameworks, not vague advice
  • Integrated Medical Skills: Tourniquet application, wound packing, and point-of-wound bleeding control
  • Team & Communication Protocols: Coordinate with colleagues and first responders effectively during active incidents
  • Scenario-Based Practice: Every skill practiced in realistic simulations, not just described in slides

Our Approach

Built by People Who've Responded to Real Emergencies

Our AVIRT curriculum isn't designed by consultants. It's built and delivered by U.S. Navy Corpsmen, EMTs, and professional firefighters — people who have applied these exact skills under real operational pressure. That lived experience is what makes the difference between training that sounds good and training that works when it matters.

Every session is delivered on-site at your location, with pre-training walkthroughs to customize scenarios to your real environment — your building, your team, your risks.

How It Works

Your AVIRT Training Journey

From your first call to certification, here's what to expect when you partner with Safety Is A Mindset.

1

Assessment & Customization

We evaluate your facility layout, workforce demographics, industry risks, and existing protocols. Our instructors conduct a physical walkthrough to build scenarios specific to your actual environment — not a generic simulation.

2

Hands-On Training Session

A 4-hour immersive session at your location. Every participant practices bleeding control, immediate response decisions, evacuation protocols, and law enforcement coordination in scenario-based exercises — not passive lectures.

3

Certification & Ongoing Support

Every participant receives HSI AVIRT certification valid for two years. We provide training records, wall reference cards, and ongoing support for refresher training, new hire onboarding, and protocol updates.

The AVIRT training transformed how our staff thinks about active threats. The hands-on bleeding control and immediate decision-making scenarios gave us real confidence — not just a certificate.
