Safety Training
for Education
Schools and universities face a safety landscape unlike any other workplace. Crowded hallways, young lives, limited security resources — and real emergencies that demand real preparation. Safety Is A Mindset delivers military-grade safety training built specifically for K-12 schools, school districts, colleges, and university campuses.
Built for Every Level of Education
From kindergarten classrooms to university research labs, every campus has its own risk profile. Our training adapts to your environment, your staff, and your students.
Teachers, aides, coaches, and administrative staff are the first line of response in any school emergency. Our K-12 safety training covers CPR certification, AVIRT active violence response, bleeding control, and first aid — designed for the unique dynamics of a school campus with students present.
K-12 Safety Training →
University campuses are dense, open environments with complex safety challenges — large crowds, multiple buildings, and a mix of staff, faculty, and thousands of students. Our higher education safety training and AVIRT for higher ed prepare your entire campus community to respond with confidence.
Higher Ed Safety Training →Safety Courses for Schools & Campuses
All courses are instructor-led, hands-on, and delivered onsite. Nationally recognized certifications issued. Available for individual schools or entire districts.
Cardiac arrest in schools is rare but catastrophic when it occurs — and trained staff response in the first 3 minutes dramatically improves survival. Our CPR and AED certification is tailored for teachers, coaches, and school staff with adult, child, and infant CPR modules. Valid for two years. Many states require CPR certification for licensed teachers.
Updated August 27, 2025 by the Health & Safety Institute (HSI), AVIRT for schools replaces the legacy AVERT program with a proactive, empowerment-based framework. Educators learn to move beyond passive lockdown responses toward immediate, decisive action. Available for K-12 schools and higher education campuses. Scenario-based drills adapted to your specific campus layout.
Developed from military combat medicine protocols used by Navy Corpsmen and combat medics, our bleeding control training teaches school staff to apply tourniquets, pack wounds, and manage arterial bleeding — the leading cause of preventable death in traumatic violence incidents. This course bridges the critical gap between a campus emergency and EMS arrival, and is a critical companion to AVIRT training for complete campus preparedness.
From playground injuries to classroom medical emergencies, school staff face a wide range of first aid situations. Our first aid certification covers wound care, fractures, burns, heat emergencies, seizure response, anaphylaxis management, and more. Available as a standalone course or bundled with CPR and AED certification for comprehensive school staff readiness.
Our onsite training services deploy certified instructors to your school or university campus with all necessary equipment — CPR manikins, AED trainers, trauma kits, and course materials. We serve school districts of any size, individual school buildings, and entire university systems. Flexible scheduling available before school, after school, on professional development days, and during staff orientation periods.
Supplement hands-on training with our online course library. Available courses include active shooter response fundamentals, bloodborne pathogens, emergency and fire preparedness, basic first aid overview, violence in the workplace, and more. Ideal for onboarding new hires, refreshing returning staff, and reaching educators in remote or distributed school settings across any state.
AVIRT Has Changed.
Has Your School?
The Health & Safety Institute updated its active violence response standard on August 27, 2025 — replacing AVERT with Active Violence Immediate Response Training (AVIRT). Schools still using AVERT-based programs are training to an obsolete framework. Safety Is A Mindset is a certified HSI provider of the current AVIRT standard, built specifically for K-12 and higher education environments.

Training Built by People Who've Been There
Most safety training companies deliver compliance. Safety Is A Mindset was built by veterans, EMTs, and first responders who have treated real trauma in real emergencies. That difference shows in how we teach, what we emphasize, and how your staff retains and uses what they learn. See more about our team on our About page.
Our instructors have treated traumatic injuries in combat and high-stakes emergency environments. They bring field-tested expertise to your school campus — not classroom theory. See our founder's background.
We don't deliver generic safety modules. Our onsite training is adapted to your specific building layout, staff roles, student population, and the unique emergency scenarios your campus actually faces.
As an HSI-authorized provider of the 2025 AVIRT standard, we ensure your school staff are trained to the most current, evidence-based active violence response protocol available. Learn what AVIRT is.
Most school safety programs focus on avoidance and evacuation. We add the medical response layer that most schools are missing: how to stop life-threatening bleeding in the minutes before EMS arrives.
All certifications issued by Safety Is A Mindset are nationally recognized, compliant with state licensing requirements, and verifiable — meeting the documentation standards school districts and university systems require.
We understand that pulling teachers from classrooms is not an option. Our onsite training is designed around school calendars — professional development days, summer institutes, staff orientation, and evening/weekend sessions. Schedule a session.
"I Hope I Never Have to Use This."
Every educator who finishes our training walks away with two things: the genuine ability to respond in a real emergency, and the hope that they'll never have to. That combination — real skill plus real awareness — is what shifts a school from a building that hopes nothing bad happens into a campus where staff know exactly what to do if it does. Safety Is A Mindset doesn't just train compliance. We build confidence.

What Educators Say About Safety Is A Mindset
Real feedback from school administrators and district safety coordinators. Read more on our testimonials page.
We'd been using the same active shooter training for seven years. After booking Safety Is A Mindset for updated AVIRT training, every teacher said it was the most practical, realistic campus safety training they'd ever received. The instructors brought a credibility level we simply couldn't get elsewhere.
The bleeding control module changed the conversation at our school. Teachers who thought stop-the-bleed training was something "for someone else" left knowing exactly how to save a life in the first four minutes. That shift in mindset — not just the certification — is what we needed.
Getting CPR certification done for our entire faculty on a single professional development day — with no additional logistics, all equipment provided, and certifications in hand by end of day — was the most efficient safety training investment our university has made.

Ask Our Team →Important: The HSI updated AVIRT on August 27, 2025 — replacing AVERT. Schools currently delivering AVERT-based training are using an outdated standard. If your district or campus has not updated to AVIRT since August 2025, your staff is not current. Contact us to schedule an update.
We offer CPR & AED certification, AVIRT school safety training, bleeding control and hemorrhage response, first aid certification, and custom onsite safety programs for K-12 schools, school districts, colleges, and universities. We also offer an online course library for supplemental self-paced training.
AVIRT — Active Violence Immediate Response Training — is the updated 2025 active violence preparedness standard from the Health & Safety Institute (HSI), which replaced AVERT on August 27, 2025. It trains educators and campus staff with a proactive, empowerment-based response model for active violence scenarios. Safety Is A Mindset provides AVIRT for K-12 schools and AVIRT for higher education campuses separately, each adapted to the specific environment.
Requirements vary by state. Many states require CPR certification as part of teacher licensure or renewal, and many school districts require it as a condition of employment. Even where not mandated, CPR-trained teachers and staff significantly improve survival odds in a cardiac emergency on campus. Safety Is A Mindset recommends CPR certification for all school staff — not just those with classroom responsibilities. Our CPR certification courses are fully onsite and certify any group size in a single session.
CPR certifications expire after two years and must be renewed to remain valid. AVIRT training should be refreshed whenever the standard updates (as it did in August 2025) and practiced annually through scenario drills to maintain staff readiness. Safety Is A Mindset recommends scheduling onsite CPR recertification every two years and an AVIRT refresher every 12–18 months for complete campus preparedness. We can set up reminder and renewal scheduling for your district.

Safety Is A Mindset's onsite delivery model is designed to work within your school calendar.
