Massachusetts operates a State Plan only for public employees. Private employers in Boston, including hospitals, universities, labs and contractors, fall under federal OSHA. That means federal standards such as bloodborne pathogens, hazard communication, respiratory protection and fall protection apply directly, and inspectors will expect training that matches each employee's job.
Hospitals and labs are where the stakes are most concentrated. Clinical staff need annual bloodborne pathogens training and current CPR. Lab researchers need hazard communication and chemical safety before they start at the bench, followed by your institution's biosafety and chemical hygiene training. Respiratory protection training matters wherever N95s or elastomeric respirators are part of the job.
