Program updated August 27, 2025 · Current HSI AVIRT standard
Critical decision-making in the first minutes of an incident — when every second defines survival
Tourniquet application, wound packing, and hemorrhage control from Navy Corpsman instructors
AVIRT's evolved decision framework — beyond Run-Hide-Fight into proactive empowerment
Communication, role assignment, and coordination with law enforcement during active threats
AVIRT is the current HSI national standard for active violence preparedness — the program that officially replaced AVERT on August 27, 2025, following a comprehensive review by law enforcement, military, and emergency medicine subject-matter experts.
Where traditional active shooter training taught people to react, AVIRT empowers them to respond immediately — with clear decision frameworks, real medical skills, and scenario-based confidence that transfers under extreme stress.
On August 27, 2025, HSI officially transitioned from AVERT to AVIRT. Here is exactly what changed — and why it matters for your organization's preparedness.
Our AVIRT curriculum isn't designed by consultants. It's built and delivered by U.S. Navy Corpsmen, EMTs, and professional firefighters — people who have applied these exact skills under real operational pressure. That lived experience is what makes the difference between training that sounds good and training that works when it matters.
Every session is delivered on-site at your location, with pre-training walkthroughs to customize scenarios to your real environment — your building, your team, your risks.
From your first call to certification, here's what to expect when you partner with Safety Is A Mindset.
We evaluate your facility layout, workforce demographics, industry risks, and existing protocols. Our instructors conduct a physical walkthrough to build scenarios specific to your actual environment — not a generic simulation.
A 4-hour immersive session at your location. Every participant practices bleeding control, immediate response decisions, evacuation protocols, and law enforcement coordination in scenario-based exercises — not passive lectures.
Every participant receives HSI AVIRT certification valid for two years. We provide training records, wall reference cards, and ongoing support for refresher training, new hire onboarding, and protocol updates.
We build every training session around the operational realities of your specific industry — not a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
The AVIRT training transformed how our staff thinks about active threats. The hands-on bleeding control and immediate decision-making scenarios gave us real confidence — not just a certificate.

AVIRT stands for Active Violence Immediate Response Training. It is the current HSI national standard for active violence preparedness, officially adopted on August 27, 2025 following a comprehensive review by military, law enforcement, and emergency medicine subject-matter experts.
AVERT (Active Violence Emergency Response Training) took a reactive posture focused primarily on active shooter events. AVIRT (Active Violence Immediate Response Training) replaced it August 27, 2025 with broader scope covering all active violence scenarios, enhanced point-of-wound medical protocols, and a proactive immediate-response decision model. Standard AVIRT training is 4 hours per group, delivered on-site at your location. Every minute is hands-on — scenario-based drills, tourniquet application, tactical decision-making exercises, and law enforcement coordination practice. Multi-session scheduling is available for large organizations or multiple shifts.
All instructors are HSI certified. Lead instructors are Brandon S. Beaver (founder, 10+ years safety professional) and Travis E. Beaver (U.S. Navy Corpsman, EMT, and firefighter with combat medical experience). Real credentials. Real experience.
Yes. AVIRT certifications are issued under HSI (Health & Safety Institute) authorization — a nationally recognized credential accepted by insurance carriers, legal bodies, and corporate training compliance standards. Certifications are valid for two years per participant.

Yes — on-site delivery is standard and strongly recommended. Training at your real location lets employees practice in the actual environment where they work. We conduct a walkthrough before every session to build scenarios around your floor plan, communication systems, and evacuation routes. We serve all of Texas and surrounding states.
Schedule your AVIRT training and give your team the skills to respond with confidence — not hope — during an active violence incident.
